Great basic video for beginners. Thanks!
I’m a utility worker and I won’t go into a backyard or house if I even THINK there might be a mean-ass dog.
Very helpful ! Got many ideas
Dogo argentino is a good dog but a big dog.
I started my home protection journey when I moved back to Texas from Cali. My dad said “moving to SA, let me offer you a bit of advice” and proceeded to walk around my house pointing out every entry point. Then purchased me a FA, an alarm system, and a doorbell camera. Since then I’ve added motion lights, two big flood lights, swapped out the screws on every strike plate, panic button, glass break sensor, and three outdoor cameras, and two American Bulldogs. Friendly, but they bark which is what I need anyway. I thank god nothing I couldn’t control has happened. My wife thought I was crazy until she received several Nextdoor notifications about incidents that have happened less than five miles from us. Yeah it’s not complete and probably not the best. The idea is to build over time and figure out what’s best for your family. I love our system and my wife feels safe. Now my neighbors ask my dad for advice.
Any suggestions for a mobile home
U may wish to consider pre drilling the door frame. Not the wall framing to keep you doors and or windows from getting snugged up and out of register, and out of plumb/ true when you add the 3" screws. Good luck great idea but be careful.
They are not going to like it if it goes this far. WAKE up AMERICA 🇺🇸 always expect the Unexpected. ⏰️
Thanks for the interesting video! I just wanted to add a suggestion: I live in Italy, and here we use shutters a lot (especially "roller shutters"). There are "anti theft" shutters, which are pretty nice and are a good defense which can substitute bars.
My property is fenced 1:04 and I have a privacy fence 6 foot tall. I have a gate solid with a steel latch. I have no trespassing signs and beware of dog signs at the gate. If trespassers with the intent to make a criminal act comes to my property makes it up to my porch and my dog bites them on my porch is that within my rights and my dogs right in texas
just common sense
You should either replace your door hinges with security hinges or just buy some security pins for your current ones. It will make it very difficult to knock in your door and buy you extra time if someone is trying to enter that way. Simple and cheap way to really upgrade your home defense.
They are called sliders and double hung like me
Having my first apartment, I loved the fact that my dog would bark anytime someone was coming to my door. She was correct so often that I started giving her props for it lmao. Let me know having a dog for my first home is a MUST!
Which dog breeds would you recommend?
My neighborhood has been targeted with car burglaries. My wife is scared but I actually want to try and catch the theifs. This helped me so much. Thanks. And you are right. The 2nd ammendment should always be the last resort. Honestly I just want to help them and try to get them to change. Anything is possible with God.
We just put up Blink 4 cameras all around our 6 acres. They work great, from our gate to our porch. IR also is excellent. I was hesitant because a 5 camera system is only 250.00.
A lot of security videos focus on amateur criminals who commit crimes of opportunity.
My concern has always been about:
1) Professional criminals,
2) Who know what they are doing with a lot of successful robberies,
3) Who stake out your place for a long period of time to learn your movements,
4) Who go after your place when you’re not at home (say on vacation or at work) and they have hours to work,
5) Who may think you have something valuable because you’ve hardened your home so much,
6) And who may be armed and coordinated.
Having cameras and things that alert you on your phone–they’re helpful if you’re in your house. But when it comes to security systems, power can just be shut off from the outside. They can wait until the batteries run down and then get to work.
I’ve even heard of thieves posing as roofers and then drilling into the attic when the owners weren’t home. The neighbors didn’t say anything because they thought the roofers were legitimate.
This isn’t to say one should expect to be robbed by Seal Team Six or some gang out of a movie. But one should plan for the worst. The most experienced, professional crews who don’t want to get caught will have their ways around most things. Whatever keeps the pros out will also keep the opportunists out.
Making sure your house "looks cheap" may encourage them to pass you by, but leaves the home vulnerable to more amateur criminals. Hardening the home may lead the pros to ask, "I wonder what’s good in there?" and get to planning.
Guy sounds like he’s on coke…..
A dog is the best security system known to man & multiple dogs is even better. I keep a large dog (107lbs.) & two medium dogs (45lbs & 52lbs.) within the fenced in parameter around my home. I also keep two small dogs inside the house to warn me if someone has gotten past the outside dogs & is now crawling in through a window.
Unless you have well trained guard dogs or vicious (not recommended) dogs, don’t depend on them to stop the threat. Your dog is simply there to scare away a scumbag or warn you of their presence if they come anyway.
All great advice; the best is have a plan!
I was taught by an ex Sheriff that there are Rings of Security of personal protection around you.
For the Home very secure doors and windows are imperative.
One of the most under secured areas a burglar takes is an unlocked window in the Bathroom or Second floor.
For forced entry not having one or more deadbolts and the mentioned 3" long deck screws that secure into the door studs.
Wood doors are generally the least secure and are the worst for home insulation.
The master bedroom is the target for burglars as this is where jewelry, cash, electronics or items for pawn can be had.
Secure this door with a steel outer door if possible not a thin wood inner door.
A good idea is this:
Set up an easy-to-see defense so when those who come within your perimeter, you’ll have a better sense on their real intentions; and so will a jury.
This can go a long way on proving defensive measures, if that is what is needed.
Is that a Maltese Cross tattoo on your arm?
Are you/were you a firefighter?
I just did 22 years in the fire service in May of this year.
Hi I love all the ideas you talk about, but I have another idea it may sound crazy or weird but… ok let said that me and my family are in the backyard and besides animals any robbers or so can come to the yard , my ides is can we lack all in the front and windows and in the back from the door we comes out to the space we’re going to be sitting can we have a type of roof that goes to the floor and be bulletproof let me know please thank you and much blessings
Coch or coach
Any advice? I couldn’t get harden for years.
Should call some old TECHEX guys about hardening technical systems like your wifi, smart TVs, other sensors in the house (:
Excellent idea…pvc in vertical opening windows
Two things criminals do not like: bright lights and loud noises.
The lights you’ve got covered already. The second part is an alarm, and you want the exact opposite of a silent alarm. You want the loudest alarm you can legally set up on your property (check your local laws to be on the safe side), something that is going to make would be burglars brown their trousers and nope out.
Drill holes just inside doors, put large dowel in
Do you have a video specifically for apartment dwellers? Tnx!
Get a Kangal dog . i live in Germany where Kangal dogs are well known because of their origins being close by in Turkey .
Turkish delivery drivers were afraid to come to our house if the dog was outside on the balcony . we asked a driver one time to bring a heavy item up stairs for us and we would pay him 40 euros !
when he saw the dog , he said " is that a kangal dog on your porch ?" my wife said " yes" and he got back in his truck and left .😂
@Tactical Hyve
What’s your thought on the Man of house be placing on lower level or upper level of the home for self defense?
Driveway motion detectors
Like to see more videos of these..my city started an neighbor crime watch & I’m needing ideas
Install a metal gate in your hallway leading to your bedrooms.
Fishing line between the fish and the house on the weak side .Quality outdoor lights from dusk to dawn. Walk around the perimeter of your house at least every 2 weeks.
The 3" deck screws for the doors are on point!! As a home builder, I do just this on every install. The screws that come with it are trash.
I’d love to hear from you guys about an outdoor alarm that makes enough noise to get the perpetrators thinking twice about continuing to try to break in. And some great brands of motion activated floodlights. I’m interested in preventing the lowlifes from entering than documenting everything and going to the police:see? They’re in my bedroom!
Thank you for the tips. One of my best friends was murdered in his backyard 12 years ago. The assailant hid in the shadows of his backyard until he came out and shot him. A dog, motion lights, and cameras would have saved his life that night.
I have an 18 pound Miniature Doberman/Daschund mix. No one can touch my doorknob without me knowing it. And believe it or not, he will bite. He’s aggressive. Also the Beware of Dog sign is a deterrent.
100% My German Shepherd turned 1 a couple weeks ago and he’s a beast
How to deal with thief’s dog when they were in your condo back yard? I just had the situation.
It’s a good video I would like to see videos on the ultimate security for a home and then inside the home I don’t feel or I haven’t seen yet insanely awesome security….. I’ve been stocked by my ex for 17 years I was just really like to see the very ultimate insecurity
Having a fence is important for legal reasons
Just having a driveway means anyone can approach your door
THORNY BUSHES JUST OUTSIDE YOUR GROUND LEVEL WINDOWS.
Deck screws aren’t the best. They’re made from brittle metal and also the last inch isn’t threaded and so doesn’t grip. You want something like #10 screw and threaded all the way up the screw. Stainless steel is good.
For the hinges, be sure to install structural screws for a high shear rating. Most screws, such as deck screws, are made with only clamping force in mind. Someone trying to kick in a door is likely applying substantial shear force to the hinges, which might break a deck screw.
Use LED dusk to dawn security lights. Motion lights tend to get dismissed like car alarms. Always have your house perimeter lit up.
