Calibrate Your Display Like A Pro
Learn how to easily use SMPTE color bars to check your monitor’s calibration in under 5 minutes. This video targets beginners and will teach you how to ensure proper basic display setup for NTSC video signals. The gel featured in portions of this video is Rosco 80.
Steps:
0:00:51 – Set brightness & contrast to their midpoint
0:01:01 – Turn color/chroma all the way down
0:01:26 – Adjust brightness level
0:01:51 – Adjust contrast level
0:02:45 – Enter blue mode
0:02:58 – Adjust the color/chroma level
0:03:16 – Adjust hue/tint level
0:03:33 – Exit blue mode
Turn off the chroma all the way, turn the contrast and brightness all the way down, then bring up the brightness using the PLUGE pattern that is the bottom right hand pattern, until only the right stripe is showing, the left stripe should match the background black. Contrast should be done next with clipping pattern. Spears and Munsil is the best source for a test disc. Bring the contrast up until the power supply begins to clip, then back it off 2 notches, that allows head room for very bright peaks. Then bring up the PLUGE pattern and see if the bars are right. Brightness and contrast push and pull one another.
You may have to go back and forth several times until you get the best setting for the black and white levels. Then do the color. The method shown with a filter works fine. The sharpness should be done as well. There are patterns for that as well. Shut off all the automatic settings, in the menu. Also a setting for Gamma is needed.
And how tf do I edit all that
that saves hassle hiring these isf thx uk calibrator people that are after your money as most i seen in video appear extremely greedy
my biggest problem with about any tv.. is that they all seem to have way too much contrast.
dip if you change the settings within the video it changes for what we need
If I do this with a 1080p calibration disk and filter and set the colours correctly, will the same settings apply to watching 4k disks? Or Is it different? As the two resolutions use a different colour space.
Adjusting, not calibrating, but still nice
I have a pdf document where the SMPTE was explained in detail but due to recent YouTube comment rule changes, I’m not able to put the file in here without getting this comment deleted, sorry :/
Yellow doesn’t look like puke anymore! Awesome video, very well explained.
How to calibrate an oled with the phone only 2 p white balance…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wC909lmnI4
Can I just run this video on my TV and use your "blue only mode" to calibrate my TV?
This is useless . Calibrate with Lagom LCD test , you have good test patterns and all there . TV options can be used , but you can better use your GPU settings if you are on PC , if not then its built-in options
Badger from Breaking Bad voiced this. https://youtu.be/LOa39uMR89g?t=83
Lol your colors will bleed if you use contrast at 100 or 90 or 80
Is very² useful,,tq for your share 💚
NTSC: Never The Same Colour
dam i wish i had access to a blue filter, iv got a 4k vizio but havent seen that blue only setting anywhere, n im hardcore all thru every bit of every menu within a few minutes of first turning it on so i kno i didnt miss it lol iv never seen a calibration done like this, n iv been kinda interested in it for a while im surprised i havent come across is sooner
1:49 I can’t see the two strips it’s always black m, I can’t use image with video 0:42? When I use image on smart tv colours doesn’t change
💚
i notice you’re using the SD bars, how would one do this with HD bars?
can i use the society of motion picture thats displayed on this video to calibrate my tv?
Blacks put black the window will get brighter as you raise black the screen is optimal black when you cant go lower and the blacks appears the same so eg 50 default 51 blacks lift at 49 black screen still looks the same as 50 50 is your best setting
What about backlight?
Not good. By carefully following these instructions and matching the patterns, I ended with a very dim picture with very washed out, lifeless colors unsuitable for any use, on an old LG 42 inch 1080p60 tv. Yes I disabled all post-processing options, and good thing that tv has a blue mode.
This dude sounds like Badger from Breaking Bad
Wow, man! I’ve had no idea how to calibrate a display! I just knew colors things and you measure them but how it’s done. And I never truely understood brightness/contrast setting when the first time booting up a game and it always seemed to be bad image to me when I do what they say like reduce the brightness till the dragon is not visible. THEN I’M NOT GONNA SEE ANYTHING, SCRUB!!! So, I always left them at their default values and now I get that it’s to get accurate image. What about other colors though? You didn’t show other colors. Are we gonna do the same thing what you did with blue for other colors with same color filter and figure out how to do it following your instructions? If so you didn’t fully show it but show us how we can figure out doing the same thing to other colors. But it is to display more color shades, not to get accurate colors. What if we get oversaturated, too much colors like LG’s ugly green more so yellow!
for one second i thought it was badger from breaking bad
Tell me he doesn’t sound exactly like Badger from BB?
Hi there, thank you, well explained, great video…However, I do have one question, which video or image do you recommend for doing these tests for a 4k display. The reason I ask, is that you will find many of these on Youtube, but they do look different even if they claim to be for a 4k display. Example, on one video, without manipulating any settings, I can see all the bars on the bottom right, on another video, I see none…so, if possible, can you recommend a link or vid or image that will serve as a proper reference. Thank you!
I don’t have Blue mod
Nice video! Wouldn’t it be better to use blue filter glasses instead of what you did.
That’s not how a pro calibrate a display at all. SMH.
i dont know what fckin strips you are on about, this is poorly explained

My projector doesn’t have any option to change colour. Is there any way for me to calibrate contract and brightness on my projector using pc only? Thanks so much
The factory tint setting is always too high!
I can’t find a blue screen filter anywhere and my tv doesn’t have a blue only mode on it
Like a pro… Youll need a capture cars…the fuck is a capture card!!!
are u try to help me or destroy me brother
I have been told that this may help me with an issue I am having. When I playback some 4K UHD titles I get ghosting / Frame retention. This may have nothing to do with calibrating the image on my 4K Samsung screen, Just wondering if you have ever come across this issue on you travels? Thank you.
That was a fucking waste, as my TV has no blue only mode, and I can’t afford gel, and the blue filter I have still shows the other colours.
I wish channels like this one had more views, this is just the perfect video. No annoying parts, straight to the point, clear enough and with great presentation (plus audio and the rest) to boot. Thanks for the excellent video, kudos sir.
Cooool
wow… thank you for the video
gah i was hoping this was for a laptop monitor
This is Not Professional.
Need Proper Calibration Hardware and Software. To Correct Gamma, Color, and Brightness
Do you know how to fix my yellow is showing green my pinky showing in purple
You saved us a lot of headaches from these scammers that calibrate the TV and try to charge arm and a leg cuz nothing’s 100% even with the highest end. It’s funny because your eyes would adjust to anything after a few minutes of watching TV or does the TV watch you that’s the million dollar question.
Why wouldnt tv manufacturers set this from the get go?
Wow, just used your guide and it was super helpful! Tv looks MUCH better now! Thanks again, keep up the great videos!
